Jungle Brothers · 1989Recording
Recorded in 1989 at Calliope Studios in New York for Jungle Brothers' second album Done by the Forces of Nature. Afrika Baby Bam, Mike G, and DJ Sammy B produced the track, with Kool DJ Red Alert involved in the album's mixing at Apollo Studios. Released on Warner Bros. in 1989, it appeared on Done by the Forces of Nature and on the What U Waitin' 4? single configuration. The track reinforced the Jungle Brothers' place within the Native Tongues circle during a period of expanding Afrocentric and sample-rich New York rap. It remains a recognized album cut from one of the Jungle Brothers' defining releases. Its layered funk sampling and group-call energy keep it visible in sample documentation and retrospectives on the Native Tongues era.
