Brentford All Stars · 1974Recording
The track was recorded at Studio One by the Brentford All-Stars, Clement “Coxsone” Dodd’s in-house studio band. Dodd produced the recording, which adapted James Brown’s “Get On The Good Foot” into a Studio One instrumental. Released in 1974, the track became one of Studio One’s strongest funk-derived instrumental cuts. Its heavy organ-led groove later made it a major bridge between Jamaican studio-band records and early hip-hop sampling culture. The track remains one of the Brentford All-Stars’ best-known recordings and has been repeatedly reissued by Soul Jazz Records. It gained wider cultural reach through samples by Boogie Down Productions, Coldcut, and later hip-hop producers.
