Recording

Aaliyah recorded 'Hot Like Fire' for her second album One in a Million, produced by Timbaland with additional production contributions from Missy Elliott, as part of the landmark sessions at Unique Recording Studios in New York that generated the album's signature futuristic sound. Included on One in a Million in 1996, 'Hot Like Fire' contributed to an album that reached number 18 on the Billboard 200 and is widely regarded as one of the defining R&B records of the decade, with Timbaland's stripped, percussive production setting a new template for the genre. The track was remixed in 1997 as 'Hot Like Fire (Timbaland Remix)' featuring Missy Elliott, which received its own single release and became closely associated with Aaliyah's legacy, further cementing the Timbaland-Elliott-Aaliyah creative triumvirate as one of the most influential collaborations in late-1990s music.
