2 Bad Mice

2 Bad Mice

2 Bad Mice · 1991
Recording

Produced by Sean O'Keeffe, Simon Colebrooke, and Rob Playford at Playford's home studio, the track was created in 1991 through the group's early exploratory approach to sampling hip-hop and soul records for breakbeat hardcore. The debut single on Moving Shadow, the track introduced 2 Bad Mice's signature breakbeat-driven hardcore sound and sampled dialogue from Beatrix Potter's The Tale of Two Bad Mice, which inspired the group's name. The track pioneered the integration of heavily chopped breaks into UK hardcore rave. The track remains foundational to early breakbeat hardcore and the emergence of jungle and drum and bass throughout the 1990s. 2 Bad Mice are widely credited as among the first UK hardcore acts to prominently incorporate breakbeats, an approach that directly shaped the decade's electronic music development.
