Bam Bam

Sister Nancy · 1982
Recording

Sister Nancy cut the track in 1982 after hearing Yellowman’s version of the tune, first working at Harry J’s Recording Studio and then finishing the album at Channel One. Winston Riley produced the session for Techniques. The song became Sister Nancy’s signature recording and a defining early dancehall anthem. It did not become a major hit in Jamaica at release, but it quickly stood out as one of the era’s most recognizable riddim cuts. "Bam Bam" became one of the most sampled reggae recordings of all time and later reached wider audiences through film, television, and hip-hop sampling. Its refrain and performance style remain a touchstone for later reggae and pop artists.
