Lady Luck

Richard Swift · 2008
Recording

Richard Swift first released “Lady Luck” on the 2008 Ground Trouble Jaw EP and later re-recorded it for The Atlantic Ocean, begun at Wilco’s Loft in Chicago on a vintage analogue tape machine. Swift wrote, composed and produced the recording, with Chris Colbert credited on album recording, Kevin Augunas mixing and Bob Ludwig mastering. Issued by Secretly Canadian as a 2009 single from The Atlantic Ocean, it became one of Swift’s most familiar solo songs. The track’s vintage soul feel and official video helped present The Atlantic Ocean as his most direct and accessible release. The song remains one of the central recordings in Richard Swift’s catalogue and was highlighted after his death as a key example of his pop craft. Later advertising and television placements kept it visible beyond its original independent-label campaign.
