Brothers and Sisters
Blur · 2003Blur recorded “Brothers and Sisters” during the 2001–2002 Think Tank sessions, after Graham Coxon’s role in the album had sharply diminished and the core group was working as Damon Albarn, Alex James and Dave Rowntree. The track was produced by Blur and Ben Hillier, with Jason Cox assisting production and James Dring credited for engineering and additional programming on the album. Released by Parlophone in 2003 on Think Tank, the song reflected the album’s move toward loop-based, electronically treated band performances and away from Blur’s earlier guitar-led lineup. Its drug-list lyric made it one of the album’s more pointed and frequently noted tracks. The track remains a recognisable deep cut from Blur’s transitional Think Tank period. It documents the band’s early-2000s shift into studio-built rhythm tracks and Damon Albarn’s broader post-Britpop writing concerns.
