On the Way

Paul McCartney · 1980
Recording

McCartney recorded the track during June–July 1979 at his home studios in Sussex and Scotland, playing every instrument and singing the vocals. He completed its guitar and vocal parts after watching Alexis Korner’s television series The Devil’s Music. Released on McCartney II in May 1980, the song showcased McCartney’s guitar playing within his return to recording alone. He retained imperfections in the bass performance, reflecting the sessions’ spontaneous approach. B.B. King recorded the song for the 2014 tribute album The Art of McCartney, bringing renewed attention to this album track.
