Hey Joe

The Jimi Hendrix Experience · 1966
Recording

The track was recorded in London in 1966 by the Jimi Hendrix Experience with Jimi Hendrix, Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell. The session took place at De Lane Lea Studios with Chas Chandler producing the band debut single. Released as the Jimi Hendrix Experience first single in 1966, it introduced Hendrix to the UK pop audience. The single reached number 6 on the UK Singles Chart and helped launch the band before Are You Experienced. It remains one of Hendrix signature early recordings and one of the most famous versions of the Billy Roberts song. The track established Hendrix as a radical interpreter of existing material and became central to his live and compilation catalogue.
