Certain Things You Ought to Know

Certain Things You Ought to Know

Destroyer · 2004
Recording

The track was recorded for Your Blues, a Destroyer album centered on Dan Bejar with programmed orchestral arrangements and collaborators including David Carswell and John Collins. The record was produced by JC DC and released during Bejar early 2000s period between solo Destroyer work and wider visibility with the New Pornographers. Released on Your Blues in 2004, it formed part of one of Destroyer more theatrical and arranged records. The album drew attention for moving away from the guitar driven sound of This Night toward synthetic chamber pop textures. It remains a documented deep cut from Destroyer early Merge era catalogue. The track reflects the literate, stylized songwriting approach that later became central to Bejar reputation.
