Piper

“Piper” was released by Jonny L on XL Recordings in 1997 and also appeared on his album “Sawtooth.” The credited production work centres on Jonny L, with Matt Schwartz credited for mixing on the album release. The single gave Jonny L a UK chart entry in October 1997 and reached number 1 on the UK Dance Singles Chart. Its sparse lead line and heavy club production made it one of the defining tracks from the “Sawtooth” period. “Piper” remains Jonny L’s signature late-1990s track and was highlighted when “Sawtooth” was reissued for its twentieth anniversary. The Grooverider mix and continued XL catalogue availability kept the record in circulation beyond its original single run.
