Recording

"Pulsion" was recorded in 1979 at Jacques Loussier's Studio Miraval in Provence, with Loussier on piano and Luc Heller on percussion. Patrice Quef, who co-founded Miraval with Loussier, engineered the recording. The title track introduced an album of Loussier's own compositions built around piano, percussion and rhythmic experimentation rather than his better-known Bach interpretations. The composition subsequently gained broad French exposure through its use in EDF's "Des hommes au service des hommes" advertising. "Pulsion" became a source for later hip-hop production, most famously through its relationship to Eminem's "Kill You," which prompted a copyright lawsuit by Loussier that was settled out of court. The album was remastered and reissued by Sony Music Masterworks in 2021.
