The Third Track

The Third Track

Moodymann · 1996
Recording

The Third Track was produced by Kenny Dixon Jr. as Moodymann and first issued on the 1996 KDJ 12-inch Don't Be Misled!. The record was mastered at National Sound Corporation in Detroit and built around material from Bionic Boogie's Risky Changes. The track was one of Moodymann's early KDJ releases and helped define his sample-heavy Detroit house approach in the mid-1990s. Its placement on the original Don't Be Misled! pressing made it a collector-favoured cut before its later album and reissue appearances. The Third Track remains a core Moodymann catalogue piece through its inclusion on Silentintroduction and later official reissues. Its Bionic Boogie source links it to the disco-sampling lineage that shaped much of Moodymann's early work.
