Wonky Bassline Disco Banger
Red Rack’em · 2016Produced by Berlin-based Bristol-born producer Danny Berman (Red Rack'em), with the signature bass part originally played in by hand after two days of sleep deprivation before being reprogrammed in a piano roll editor following a catastrophic loss of the original Logic project. The track was mastered by Shane McEnhill at Finyl Tweak and first pressed in a run of three hundred copies on Berman's own Bergerac label in March 2016, before a digital release on Luke Solomon's Classic Music Company in September. The first pressing sold out before reaching the shops, and the track was on its third repress within two months, selling over three thousand copies on vinyl by year's end and reaching number five on the German club chart. BBC Radio 1 support came from Pete Tong, Annie Mac, MistaJam, B. Traits, Danny Howard, Heidi, and Monki, while club DJs from Moodymann, DJ Harvey, Dixon, and Carl Craig to Bicep, Disclosure, Masters At Work, François K, and the Blessed Madonna made it ubiquitous from underground clubs to festival main stages. Crowned Record of the Year by multiple record shops, praised as "Unbeatable" by Elton John and "like it's come down from a different planet" by Groove Armada, the track has continued to sell out every vinyl repress and received a 10th Anniversary Edition on transparent red vinyl in June 2026, cementing its status as one of the most beloved disco house records of the 2010s.
