It was written in 1996 and released through World Beat Studios and West Coast Records Inc. Chris Garcia developed it with manager and producer Ryan Romany, and later accounts place the recording in Trinidad’s World Beat Studios. The track became Garcia’s breakout chutney-soca hit in the mid-1990s and made him a local sensation. Contemporary and retrospective coverage describes it as especially popular with younger listeners and a defining carnival-era record. It remains one of Chris Garcia’s signature songs and a well-known staple of chutney-soca playlists. The track’s video and chorus kept it in circulation long after its release, and Garcia later performed it again in the 2017 Chutney Soca Monarch Ultimate Challenge.
