I Can't Quit You Baby

I Can't Quit You Baby

Otis Rush · 1965
Recording

Otis Rush recorded I Cant Quit You Baby in Chicago in 1956 for Cobra with Willie Dixon producing and writing the song. The session introduced Rushs intense vocal and left-handed guitar style in a dramatic slow-blues arrangement. Released by Cobra in 1956, the single became Rushs debut record and reached number 6 on the Billboard R&B chart. It helped establish the West Side Chicago blues sound and gave Cobra its first major hit. I Cant Quit You Baby became Otis Rushs signature song and a major modern blues standard. Later versions by artists including Little Milton, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, and Led Zeppelin carried the song into soul-blues, British blues, and hard rock repertoires.
