Don't Ask Me Why

Don't Ask Me Why

Billy Joel · —
Recording

Recorded at A&R Recording in New York City during the sessions for Glass Houses. Billy Joel performed lead and backing vocals and keyboards with David Brown and Russell Javors on acoustic guitars, Doug Stegmeyer on bass and Liberty DeVitto on percussion. Released as the third single from Glass Houses, the song reached number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Adult Contemporary chart. Its acoustic instrumentation, Latin percussion and layered piano bridge contrasted with the album's harder-edged material. The song remains a durable Billy Joel radio staple and a prominent example of his melodic, rhythmically varied songwriting. Its polished arrangement helped broaden the musical range associated with Glass Houses.
