Light My Fire

Jackie Wilson · 1968
Recording

Recorded for Jackie Wilson's Do Your Thing album during his late-1960s Brunswick period, with Carl Davis and Eugene Record producing the album. The performance recast The Doors' 1967 song within the funkier production approach Wilson was pursuing at Brunswick. The track was one of several contemporary pop and soul reinterpretations on Do Your Thing, alongside versions of "Eleanor Rigby" and "Hold On, I'm Comin'." It became one of the album's best-known cuts among collectors and DJs. The recording developed a lasting reputation in soul and rare-groove circles and has been repeatedly reissued. Del Gazeebo later reworked it as the "De La Soul Flip Edit" for a 2021 Soul Flip release.
