Let's Straighten It Out
O.V. WRIGHT · 1978Recording
Wright recorded Benny Latimore’s composition for The Bottom Line at Royal Recording Studios in Memphis. Willie Mitchell produced and engineered the album, with horn and string arrangements by Aarion Nesbit. The performance appeared on Wright’s second Hi Records album, continuing his longstanding partnership with Willie Mitchell. It brought Wright’s pleading delivery to a song Latimore had made a hit in 1974. Wu-Tang Clan sampled the recording on America in 1996, and it subsequently appeared on Shaolin Soul. Nick Hornby also devoted an essay to Wright’s version in Songbook.
