Come See About Me

Come See About Me

Diana Ross/The Supremes · 1964
Recording

The Supremes cut the song at Hitsville U.S.A. in Detroit during the same two-week stretch that also produced "Baby Love." It was recorded for Motown under the Holland-Dozier-Holland team, with Diana Ross on lead vocals and Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson on background vocals. The single became the third of the Supremes’ run of five consecutive U.S. pop No. 1 hits, reinforcing the group’s dominance at Motown in late 1964. Its fade-in opening and tightly controlled Detroit beat helped define the label’s polished pop-soul sound. The song remains one of the Supremes’ signature recordings and a touchstone of the classic Motown era. It has stayed in circulation through later covers and compilations, keeping the track visible beyond its original chart life.
