Recording

Recorded in studio 2 at Sound 80 in Minneapolis in 1979, with Cynthia Johnson on lead vocals and Steven Greenberg writing and producing. The track came from the Lipps, Inc. studio project built around Greenberg and Minneapolis session players. Released in 1980, the single arrived as disco was fading and helped bridge late-disco polish with a more electronic, dance-floor sound. It became Lipps, Inc.'s breakout hit and a transatlantic chart-topping record. The song remains one of the defining dance hits of its era and the signature recording associated with Lipps, Inc. It is also remembered as the first Number One hit recorded in Minneapolis.
