Insane

Recorded for Finding Foundations, Vol. II, with Madison McFerrin writing, performing, and producing the track through layered a cappella vocals, loops, and percussive backing voices. The single was released independently through MadMcFerrin Music on 2 February 2018. Insane became one of Madison McFerrin's breakthrough early singles and drew critical attention for extending her voice-only production style beyond her debut EP. Pitchfork highlighted the song in 2018 for its cascading harmonies, rhythmic vocal arrangement, and joyful romantic charge. The track remains one of McFerrin's defining early recordings and a key piece of the Finding Foundations, Vol. II era. Its Jasia Kaulbach-directed video helped establish the visual identity of her independent a cappella soul work.
