Get Out of My Life Woman (mono)
Iron Butterfly · 2020Recorded in October 1967 during the sessions for Iron Butterfly's debut album Heavy. The band recorded Allen Toussaint's song with Doug Ingle, Ron Bushy, Darryl DeLoach, Jerry Penrod, and Danny Weis, with Charles Greene and Brian Stone producing at Gold Star Studios and Nashville West in Hollywood. Released by Atco in 1968 on Heavy, Get Out of My Life, Woman placed Iron Butterfly's psychedelic rock sound against a New Orleans R&B standard first recorded by Lee Dorsey. Its heavy breakbeat and organ-led arrangement made it one of the album's most distinctive non-original tracks. Iron Butterfly's version became a major sampling source because of its drum break. Its later use across hip-hop and electronic records gave the Heavy album a second life among beat-diggers beyond the band's better-known In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida legacy.
