Recording

Recorded in 1989–1990 at Soundworks Studio in New York City for Today’s second album, The New Formula. Credits on the release link the track to Dr. Freeze (Elliott Straite) as producer, with Stanley Brown, Howie Tee, Spyderman, and the H-Posse among the associated production personnel, and Russell Elevado and Hiriam Hicks among the mixing staff. Released in 1990 as the opening single from The New Formula, the song gave the group another Billboard R&B hit and reached No. 12 on the Hot R&B Singles chart. It appeared on Motown at a moment when Today were consolidating their early chart success. The track remained part of the group’s catalog beyond its original release and later appeared on the soundtrack for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which broadened its reach to a new audience. Its continued circulation on digital platforms and retrospective track listings keeps it present in Today’s best-known singles.
