Last Night

Kid ’n Play · 1987
Recording

Recorded for Kid 'n Play’s debut album 2 Hype, the track was cut in New York at Bayside Sound Recording Studio and built around Hurby "Luv Bug" Azor’s production with Christopher Martin and Christopher Reid on the writing credit. Released in 1987 on Select Records, "Last Night" was Kid 'n Play’s first single under that name and their first record to reach the UK Singles Chart. It marked the duo’s first major chart appearance and helped establish their early profile. The track remains one of the duo’s best-known early records and was later ranked No. 33 in Ego Trip’s 1987 list of hip-hop singles. Its samples and story-song style kept it circulating in hip-hop commentary and retrospectives.
