Independent Women, Part I

Destiny’s Child · 2000
Recording

It was recorded for the Charlie’s Angels soundtrack and credited to production work by Beyoncé Knowles, Cory Rooney, and Poke & Tone. Session credits list recording at Lobo Studios in Deer Park, New York, and TK Studios in Honolulu, Hawaii, with engineering by Manelich Sotolongo and additional recording by Troy Gonzalez and Ramon Morales. Released as the lead single from Charlie’s Angels: Music From the Motion Picture, it became Destiny’s Child’s biggest U.S. hit and spent 11 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. That run made it one of the defining pop singles of 2000–2001. The song remains one of Destiny’s Child’s signature empowerment anthems and is still widely cited in retrospectives on great girl-group singles. Billboard later ranked it among the 100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time.
