Notion Of Self (MT-41 Riddim)

Recorded for Dreadsquad’s 2012 MT-41 Riddim project on Superfly Studio. The backing was built entirely from sounds of the Casio Casiotone MT-41 keyboard, with Blackout JA voicing the tune over the riddim. It was part of an early-2012 digital dancehall release that framed itself as a modern return to computerized Jamaican riddim culture. The track quickly entered reggae mix circulation and was picked up by DJs and music blogs that highlighted the Dreadsquad/Blackout JA pairing. The track continued to surface in reggae and dub mix tracklists after release, including Radio Milwaukee’s Sound Travels and Wild City’s Reggae Rajahs mix. That circulation kept it visible as one of the notable Blackout JA and Dreadsquad collaborations.
