I Want to Thank You
Alicia Myers · 1981Alicia Myers recorded I Want to Thank You in 1981 for her debut MCA album Alicia at PAC-3 Recording Company in Dearborn, Michigan. Kevin McCord wrote the song and produced the album track with Al Perkins, with Richard Becker credited as engineer and Steve Hall as mastering engineer. The song became Myers's signature solo record after leaving One Way, reaching number 37 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart in 1982. Heavy club rotation in the United States and United Kingdom turned the album cut into a later single and a durable dance-floor record. I Want to Thank You became a widely sampled boogie and gospel-soul record and was later covered by Robin S. Its influence extended into house, R&B and pop, including records by Busta Rhymes and The Weeknd.
