Shake Your Moneymaker
Elmore James · 1965Elmore James recorded Shake Your Moneymaker in New Orleans in 1961 during his Fire and Enjoy Records period with Bobby Robinson producing. The session featured James vocal and slide guitar in a driving dance-based arrangement with his regular band sound. Released by Fire in 1961, Shake Your Moneymaker became one of James best known late singles. Its hard shuffle, repeated title hook, and slide-guitar attack made it a durable club and dance record within early-1960s electric blues. Shake Your Moneymaker became an Elmore James standard and was later recorded by artists including Fleetwood Mac, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, George Thorogood, and the Black Crowes. The song remained closely associated with the phrase later used as the title of the Black Crowes debut album.
