I Can See Clearly Now

Johnny Nash · 1972
Recording

Johnny Nash recorded the single in London during the sessions that produced the I Can See Clearly Now album, working with the Jamaican backing group Fabulous Five Inc. and producing the track himself. Released on Epic in 1972, it became Nash’s signature hit and a major crossover success, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helping push reggae into the American mainstream. The song has remained Nash’s best-known recording through constant airplay, countless covers, soundtrack placements, and advertising use, with later revivals keeping it in popular culture. Its status as an early reggae-pop crossover record has made it a touchstone for later artists and listeners.
