She Burns

She Burns was written and produced by Joe Goddard with Mara Carlyle on vocals for the Taking Over EP. The track was released as an eight-minute vocal cut alongside Taking Over, Step Together and Bassline '12. The track followed Goddard's Gabriel EP and continued his solo work outside Hot Chip. Pitchfork highlighted She Burns ahead of the EP release, noting Carlyle's vocal feature and its lower-key mood. She Burns remains a key track from Goddard's 2013 Taking Over EP and one of his documented collaborations with Mara Carlyle. Its official video, directed by Soandsau, gave the song a distinct visual afterlife.
