Bang a Gong (Get It On)

T. Rex · 1971
Recording

Recorded in 1971 at Trident Studios in London, with Marc Bolan on vocals and guitar, Steve Currie on bass, Bill Legend on drums, Rick Wakeman on piano, Ian McDonald on saxophones and Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan on backing vocals. Tony Visconti produced the recording. Released in July 1971, the single topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks and reached number ten on the Billboard Hot 100 under its American title. It became T. Rex's biggest United States hit and a defining record of their commercial peak. The song remains one of T. Rex's signature recordings and an enduring template for glam and later guitar rock. It was revived as a major hit by the Power Station in 1985 and influenced recordings including Oasis's Cigarettes and Alcohol.
