McCartney recorded the track during his home sessions in Sussex and Scotland in June–July 1979, performing the instruments and vocals himself. He mixed it at Abbey Road that October with assistance from Eddie Klein. Released as the B-side of Waterfalls in June 1980, the track revealed the equipment experiments behind the McCartney II sessions. Its repetitive vocal phrases and layered instrumental groove grew from testing his recording setup. Darkstar named an early version of their debut album after the song. The 2011 McCartney II Archive Collection included both the original single edit and an extended version.
