Mumford & Sons · 2009
Recording

Recorded in 2008 and 2009 for Mumford & Sons' debut album Sigh No More. The track was produced by Markus Dravs with the band and featured the group's signature combination of acoustic instrumentation, banjo and four-part harmonies. Released as the third single from Sigh No More, the song became one of the band's breakthrough recordings and helped establish their international profile. It received widespread radio airplay and earned a Grammy Award nomination for Record of the Year. The track remains one of Mumford & Sons' signature songs and a defining recording of their early career. Its commercial success and enduring popularity helped drive the global resurgence of acoustic, roots-oriented British bands in the early 2010s.
