Memory Effect

Recording

Recorded over about nine months at the duo’s home studio in Sheffield for the debut album Casting Shadows Without Light. The track was created by Spektre, the partnership of Paul Maddox and Rich Wakley, and issued as the album’s extended mix on Respekt Recordings in 2010. The track appeared on Spektre’s first studio album, a release the duo framed as a continuous DJ-style journey rather than a simple singles collection. It helped define the album’s dark, club-oriented aesthetic and was later offered as a free download in extended form. Memory Effect remained part of Spektre’s catalog and live and DJ set material after the album cycle. It circulated widely through the duo’s own channel and free-download sharing, giving it a longer afterlife than a standard album cut.
