Recording

“Smack My Bitch Up (DJ Hype Remix)” was issued on the 1997 XL Recordings single formats for “Smack My Bitch Up.” The original track was written, produced and mixed by Liam Howlett, with DJ Hype credited for the remix. The remix placed one of the UK’s leading drum-and-bass DJs on a major Prodigy single during “The Fat of the Land” campaign. It connected The Prodigy’s crossover electronic audience with the contemporary UK club scene around DJ Hype. “Smack My Bitch Up (DJ Hype Remix)” remains the principal drum-and-bass remix from the original single campaign. Its inclusion on multiple 1997 single formats kept it tied to the official XL Recordings release history.
