Faithful Man

Lee Fields & the Expressions · 2012
Recording

Recorded for Faithful Man with Lee Fields fronting The Expressions and production from Truth & Soul co-owners Leon Michels and Jeff Silverman, using traditional analog equipment. The arrangement featured horns, strings, and background vocals built around Fields' lead vocal. The title track opened the album and set the tone for its old-school soul approach. Contemporary reviews singled it out as a strong statement of the record's lush, classic sound. It remained one of the album's most recognizable songs and was later issued in a stripped-down "Bare Bones Version." The song continued to serve as a signature example of Lee Fields' modern-day classic-soul style.
