Hot Milk

Jackie Mittoo · 1968
Recording

Recorded in Kingston at Jamaica Recording Studio for Studio One, with Jackie Mittoo backed by the Soul Vendors on the Evening Time sessions. Coxsone Dodd produced the recording. The track was one of the distinctive instrumentals from Evening Time and helped define Studio One’s late-rocksteady keyboard sound. It later became one of Mittoo’s best-known riddims, circulating widely among Jamaican sound-system and producer circles. Hot Milk became a heavily versioned foundation track, with later cuts and reinterpretations across reggae and dancehall, and Mittoo later revisited it on Version Studio. Its bass-and-organ pattern has remained a durable source for covers, versions, and samples.
