Take Me to Church (Extended Mix)
Hozier · 2013Recording
Hozier wrote the song in 2013 and cut the first demo in his parents’ attic in Bray, County Wicklow, with a programmed backing track and drummer Fiachra Kinder. Rubyworks then matched him with Rob Kirwan, who re-recorded and overdubbed the track while keeping the original vocal take. The song became Hozier’s breakthrough single and spread rapidly after its stark black-and-white video went viral. It drew major-label interest, won wide critical praise, and became a major international hit. It remains Hozier’s signature song and one of the defining breakout singles of the 2010s streaming era. Its viral reach and enduring chart presence turned it into the track most closely associated with his career.
