Recording

Recorded for the Gipsy Kings album with Nicolas Reyes on lead vocals, Tonino Baliardo on lead guitar and the group providing rhythm guitars and handclaps. Claude Martinez produced the recording, Dominique Perrier arranged it and Claude Wagner handled the mix. The single became the Gipsy Kings' international breakthrough and brought their music to mainstream audiences across Europe and beyond. It reached number seven in France and became one of the defining recordings of their career. The song remains the group's signature recording and has been widely covered, adapted and used in film, television and advertising. Its combination of material derived from Caballo Viejo and Bamboleo also gave it a lasting cross-cultural reach.
