Everlasting Love

Recorded in 1967 with Steve Ellis on lead vocals and session musicians providing the instrumental backing rather than the other members of Love Affair. Mike Smith produced the recording and Keith Mansfield arranged its orchestral accompaniment. Released in December 1967, the single reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in February 1968. Its success established Love Affair as a major British pop act and made Steve Ellis one of the period's most recognisable young singers. The recording remains Love Affair's signature hit and one of the best-known British pop singles of the late 1960s. It helped establish Everlasting Love as a standard later revived by artists including Carl Carlton, Rex Smith and Rachel Sweet.
