Before Your Very Eyes
Atoms for Peace · 2013Recorded during the Amok sessions from 2010 to 2012, after Atoms For Peace spent three days jamming and recording original material in Los Angeles. Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich edited and arranged the recordings over two years, combining the band's live performances with Yorke's electronic material. Released by XL Recordings in 2013, Before Your Very Eyes... opened Amok and served as one of the album's singles. It represented the project's central method of turning live ensemble playing by Yorke, Godrich, Flea, Joey Waronker, and Mauro Refosco into tightly edited electronic song structures. The track remains one of the most visible Atoms For Peace recordings, helped by Andrew Thomas Huang's stop-motion video of Thom Yorke emerging from a desert landscape. It continues to stand as a key example of Yorke and Godrich's attempt to blur the line between live-band performance and programmed production.
