Milkshake

Recorded in 2003 for Kelis’s third album, Tasty, with The Neptunes producing and Kelis on vocals. The single was cut as the album’s lead track and later issued on Star Trak and Arista in the United States. Milkshake became Kelis’s commercial breakthrough, turning her into a mainstream pop figure and giving her her highest-charting U.S. single. Its playful hook and stripped-down Neptunes production made it one of the defining singles of 2003. The song remains Kelis’s signature record and one of the most recognizable pop-R&B singles of the 2000s. Its chorus has been widely quoted and interpolated, keeping the track in circulation long after its original chart run.
