Damn

New Birth · 1973

Recording

Written by guitarist Charles Hearndon, Damn was originally released by New Birth’s instrumental ensemble, the Nite-Liters, on A-Nal-Y-Sis in 1973. Harvey Fuqua produced the album during sessions at RCA studios in New York and Hollywood. The track showcased the instrumental musicians behind New Birth on the Nite-Liters’ fifth and final album. Hearndon shared its arrangement and conducting credits with Fuqua. Dr. Dre sampled the recording for Lyrical Gangbang on The Chronic in 1992. Its later inclusion on Greatest Funk Classics brought it into compilations credited to New Birth.
