The Heavens & The Earth

The Heavens & The Earth

Recording

Co-produced by Detroit techno pioneer Robert Hood and his daughter Lyric Hood at their Alabama home studio, the track is the third cut from the Victorious album, which marked Floorplan's evolution from a solo alias into a father-daughter production partnership. The track features both Hoods quoting from the Book of Genesis over razor-sharp percussion and funk-influenced instrumentation. Norman Records compared the track to Lil' Louis's classic "Blackout" and described it as bringing the Bible to the dancefloor with added funk, while M-Plant's own notes praised its marriage of Hood's trademark knife-edged percussion with the spiritual themes that ran throughout the album. Victorious arrived as the follow-up to 2013's Paradise, which had spawned the crossover anthem "Never Grow Old." The album cemented Floorplan as one of the most joyous and spiritually charged projects in contemporary house music, with Resident Advisor and FACT both covering the father-daughter collaboration and Mixmag running a feature on their unique dynamic that positioned them as torchbearers for the connection between the club and the church.
