Tesseract VJ: what it hears, what it keeps, and what leaves your device. Last changed 16 October 2026.

01The short version

Tesseract VJ collects no information about you. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. What it hears is analysed on your device and never recorded unless you press Rec. What you add stays on your device. Nothing you do in the app is sent to us.

02Who we are

Tesseract VJ is made by MIXUDG LTD (“MIXUDG”, “we”, “us”), 42 Bluebell Close, Kingsnorth, Ashford, Kent, TN23 3NG, a company registered in England and Wales, number 17515725. We are the controller of any personal information described in this notice. You can reach us at hello@mixudg.com.

03What the app hears

With your permission, the app listens to its audio input — your iPad's or Mac's microphone, or a line from a mixer through a USB audio interface — to find the tempo, the beat, the key and the energy of the music, so the visuals move with it. The sound is analysed on your device as it arrives. It is not recorded, stored or sent anywhere, except as described in parts 04 and 06. You can turn microphone access off at any time in your device's Settings; the visuals then keep time on the app's own clock.

04Naming a track (Shazam)

Only when you tap the Shazam button, the app listens for up to fifteen seconds and sends a short audio fingerprint — not the sound itself — to Apple's Shazam service, which returns the track's name. Apple handles that request as its own service, under Apple's privacy policy. We don't receive the fingerprint or the result. The track name is kept on your device so you can show it on screen.

05Your clips, photos and titles

Videos you import from Files, AirDrop or Photos, photos you add, any background cut out of them (done on your device), and your titles, logos, sets and settings are stored inside the app on your device. They are not uploaded or sent to us. Deleting the app deletes them. If your device is backed up to iCloud or a computer, they may be included in that backup, which is between you and Apple.

When you add photos or videos, you pick them with Apple's own picker, and the app receives only the ones you pick.

06Recordings and your photo library

When you press Rec, the show and its sound are recorded into a video on your device and saved to your photo library, in an album called Tesseract VJ. The app asks permission to add to your photo library to save recordings, and for access to keep them together in that album. It doesn't look at, copy or send anything else in your library. You can change these permissions at any time in your device's Settings.

07Our other apps

The Our other apps page in the app asks Apple's App Store and our website polson.app for the list of our apps. Nothing about you is sent with those requests. Like any website, they see your device's IP address in order to reply; we don't use it to identify you or to track you.

08Information Apple shares with developers

Apple handles your purchase and download of the app. If you have chosen in your device's settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may give us crash reports and statistics about how the app performs. These come from Apple, not from the app, and Apple gives them to us in a form that doesn't identify you. We use them only to fix problems.

09If you contact us

If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and to help you. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you. We keep the conversation for up to two years after it ends, then delete it, unless the law requires us to keep it longer. Our email is provided by a mail service that may store messages on servers outside the UK; where it does, they are protected by the safeguards UK data protection law requires.

10What we don't do

We don't sell or share information about you, use it for advertising, or track you across other companies' apps or websites. The app has no accounts, no sign-in and no in-app purchases.

11Children

The app isn't aimed at children and collects nothing from anyone, whatever their age. If a child under 13 has emailed us, a parent or guardian can ask us to delete that email.

12Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to have it moved to another service. Because the app sends us nothing, the only information we could hold about you is an email you've sent us. To use any of these rights, write to hello@mixudg.com. We'll reply within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or 0303 123 1113.

13Changes to this notice

If the app starts handling information differently, we'll update this notice and the date at the top before the new version reaches the App Store. The terms for using the app are in the Tesseract VJ Terms.
