Terms.
01Who we are
Synapse is made by MIXUDG LTD (“MIXUDG”, “we”, “us”), 42 Bluebell Close, Kingsnorth, Ashford, Kent, TN23 3NG, a company registered in England and Wales, number 17515725. You can reach us at hello@mixudg.com.
02These terms and Apple's licence
Your licence to use Synapse is Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Apple licence”). These terms add to it. If the two ever conflict, the Apple licence wins. By downloading or using the app, you agree to both. Apple is not responsible for the app or these terms, and we, not Apple, are responsible for the app and for dealing with any claims about it.
03What the app does
Synapse is a private AI assistant for your Mac: you can talk to an avatar, ask questions about your PDFs, spreadsheets and notes, and create images. It needs macOS 26 or later on a Mac with Apple silicon. The built-in AI and image creation need Apple Intelligence turned on. Ollama is optional; larger models need more memory, as the Model Store shows for each one.
04AI answers can be wrong
Synapse asks its models to answer only from your files, to name the file and place each answer comes from, and to say when the answer isn't there. Models can still misread, miss things or make things up. When Synapse shows that a number was computed from your spreadsheet's rows, the number was calculated by the app; otherwise the answer is the model's reading of your files. Check answers against your files before you rely on them.
Synapse is not a source of professional advice. Don't rely on it for legal, medical, financial or safety decisions.
05Your files
Only add files you have the right to use. Your files, and what Synapse makes from them, stay yours.
06Ollama and other people's models
Ollama is a separate app, not made by us, under its own terms. The models you run in it are made by other companies and come with their own licences (for example, Google's Gemma models have their own terms of use); following those licences is your responsibility. Synapse doesn't filter what Ollama models say, so the models you choose, and what you do with their output, are up to you.
07Images you create
Images are created by Apple's Image Playground, under Apple's terms. Don't use them to mislead people, to infringe anyone's rights or to break the law.
08What's ours
The app, its design and its name belong to us. The avatar's face is derived from Google's MediaPipe Face Mesh model, used under the Apache License 2.0 and credited in the app's About window. Don't copy, sell, rent or reverse-engineer the app, except where the law allows you to.
09Using it fairly
Don't use the app to break the law, to infringe anyone's rights, or to harm or deceive other people.
10Price, payment and refunds
The price is shown on the App Store and is paid to Apple, which handles payment and refunds. To ask for a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com. There are no in-app purchases or subscriptions.
11Your legal rights
If you are a consumer in the UK, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 says the app must be of satisfactory quality, fit for its purpose and as described. If it isn't, you're entitled to a repair or a replacement, or in some cases a refund or a price reduction. If the app damages your device or other digital content because we didn't use reasonable care and skill, we'll repair the damage or pay you compensation. Nothing in these terms affects these rights. Citizens Advice (citizensadvice.org.uk) can explain them.
12Our responsibility to you
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. Loss or damage is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen, or if we both knew it might happen when you got the app.
We are not responsible for loss or damage that wasn't foreseeable, or that was caused by something outside our control. We aren't responsible for decisions you make based on what an AI model says (part 04). If you use Synapse in a business, we aren't responsible for loss of profit, business, revenue or opportunity.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to exclude or limit.
13Updates, and if things stop
We may update the app to fix problems, improve it or keep it working with new versions of macOS. Some updates may be needed for the app to keep working. We'll keep Synapse working as described for as long as we offer it, but we can't promise it will run on every future device or system version.
You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it. If you seriously break these terms, your licence to use the app ends, as the Apple licence describes.
14Changes to these terms
We may change these terms, for example to reflect changes to the app or the law. We'll update the date at the top, and if a change matters to you, we'll mention it in the app's release notes on the App Store.
15The law, and getting in touch
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your own courts. If something goes wrong, please write to hello@mixudg.com first; we'll try to put it right.
How Synapse treats your information is in its Privacy notice.
