Recording

John Barry recorded “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” in September and October 1969 at CTS Studios Bayswater in London for the James Bond film of the same name. Barry composed, arranged and conducted the cue with the John Barry Orchestra, with Phil Ramone producing and John Richards mixing the soundtrack recordings. Released by EMI in 1969 on the On Her Majesty’s Secret Service soundtrack, it served as the film’s instrumental main-title theme in place of a conventional vocal Bond song. Its brass-led drive, electronic textures and urgent rhythm gave the George Lazenby Bond film one of the series’ most distinctive title cues. The track remains one of Barry’s most admired Bond themes and a standout example of late-1960s action scoring. The 2003 digital remaster helped reintroduce the cue through expanded soundtrack editions and streaming-era Bond compilations.
