I Got A Thing, You Got A Thing, Everybody's Got A Thing (2025 Remastered)
Funkadelic · 1970Recorded at Tera Shirma Sound in Detroit during 1968–1969, I Got a Thing, You Got a Thing, Everybody's Got a Thing featured Funkadelic's early ensemble, including Eddie Hazel on lead guitar, Billy Bass Nelson on bass, Tawl Ross on rhythm guitar and Tiki Fulwood on drums. Written by Clarence Fuzzy Haskins and produced by George Clinton, the recording appeared on the group's self-titled debut album. Released on Westbound Records in 1970 as a single backed with Fish, Chips and Sweat, the song reached number 80 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 30 on the Billboard R&B singles chart. Its driving rhythm, prominent guitar work and exuberant vocal performances helped establish Funkadelic's unconventional musical identity during the group's emergence from Detroit's soul scene. I Got a Thing, You Got a Thing, Everybody's Got a Thing remains an important recording from Funkadelic's formative period, showcasing Clarence Fuzzy Haskins's songwriting and George Clinton's early production approach. Its continued presence on compilations including Music for Your Mother and Motor City Madness has preserved its place in the Parliament-Funkadelic catalogue, while the 2025 remaster introduced the original recording to contemporary listeners.
