Reduction

Reduction was recorded on September 25–26, 1980 at Linden Studios in Ambler, Pennsylvania, by Bill Laswell, Michael Beinhorn and Fred Maher. Material and Martin Bisi produced the session, with engineering by Bill Mauchly and Vin Moos. The track captured Material's early trio formation, combining Laswell's bass, Beinhorn's electronics and Maher's percussion. It appeared on Temporary Music Compilation and subsequently opened the Temporary Music 2 EP. Reduction remained available through successive Temporary Music and Secret Life compilations, preserving the group's early work before its expanding roster of guest collaborators.
